About Mako Capital

Talk to the people who actually structure the deal.

Mako Capital was founded by Dr. Marcos Medeiros — a finance professor and 30-year capital-markets practitioner who believes you should understand the path before you commit the capital.

Professional background

A rare combination: the scholar and the practitioner. Most people who can explain finance have never done it at scale — and most people who've done it at scale can't explain it simply. Dr. Marcos Medeiros is both.

For roughly three decades, Marcos built a career in investment banking and corporate finance, with senior roles at institutions including Santander, BNP Paribas, Votorantim, Itaú BBA, and Citigroup/Salomon Smith Barney. Over that career he led and advised on transactions across four continents — including serving as lead financial advisor on major infrastructure financings.

Transaction history reflects Dr. Medeiros's personal career experience, not Mako Capital's firm-level record. Specific figures available upon request.

Today he brings that same capital-markets depth to a deliberately focused book of clients. Marcos is a finance and real estate professor at the University of Virginia's College at Wise, holds a PhD from the University of Central Florida (2024) and an MBA from IE Business School in Madrid, and has lectured at universities including Cornell, Rochester Institute of Technology, the University of South Florida, and Auburn. He is a licensed Mortgage Loan Originator, a Realtor, and an AAPL teaching instructor who trains students as Certified Private Lender Associates (CPLAs).

Why Mako

He built the firm he wished his clients had found sooner.

Over the years, Marcos watched the same thing happen again and again: sponsors and borrowers were asked to commit before they had any real chance to understand. They'd sign a term sheet before anyone explained the alternatives, the trade-offs, or the true cost of choosing wrong.

He created Mako Capital to reverse that order. Here, the first step isn't a term sheet — it's a conversation. The goal is simple: help each client understand their options clearly, compare them honestly, and choose the path that genuinely fits their objectives. Before you commit, understand the structure.

Conviction before capital

Discovery first. Pricing second. Pressure never.

Marcos's approach begins with questions, not quotes. Before anyone talks about rates, structure, or products, he wants to understand the full picture — your business, your thesis, your timeline, and the constraints that actually matter. Only then does it make sense to compare options and put capital to work.

It's a consultation-first philosophy borrowed from how the best advisors operate: understand the problem deeply before recommending a solution. For clients, it means no rushed commitments, no being steered toward a single product, and no surprises later about terms, costs, structure, or timeline.

Large-firm capability. Boutique attention. The same senior team from first conversation to close.

Capabilities, one relationship

Institutional capability — with a senior team that stays at the table.

Marcos's experience spans the worlds most clients have to navigate separately. Because Mako sits across capital markets, asset management, and investment banking, clients can genuinely compare a financing path against a capital raise — and choose with clear eyes.

Education

A professor's instinct: make the complicated clear.

Teaching changes how you communicate. Years in the classroom have made Marcos especially good at translating the parts of finance that intimidate most people — LTV, DSCR, points, loan structure, covenants, and underwriting — into plain language you can actually use to make a decision.

That's the real advantage of working with an educator: you don't just get a recommendation, you get to understand it. Clients who understand their financing make better decisions, prepare stronger files, and avoid the costly mistakes that come from not knowing what to ask.

Complex finance, explained in your language.

Marcos is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Spanish — and understands that for many clients, navigating U.S. capital markets in a second language is one of the hardest parts.

Hablamos español.   Falamos português.
